Following the ground-breaking ceremony held in April 2019, DESOTEC commissioned its fourth reactivation furnace and started it, as planned, in January 2020.
“This new state-of-the-art reactivation facility will enable DESOTEC to further accelerate its growth into new markets across Europe. Heavily loaded activated carbon waste streams, which previously were just a waste, can and will now be recycled into high quality reactivated carbon and reused for DESOTEC’s industrial purification services”, explains Mario Hertegonne, CEO at DESOTEC.
Today, the plant is already operational, allowing for the reactivation of spent activated carbon that had to be incinerated or landfilled before. Using cutting-edge technology, this advanced facility enables the reactivation of heavily loaded activated carbon waste streams containing high concentrations of organics, sulphur, chlorine and other inorganic contaminants. Furthermore, it is providing additional recycling options to DESOTEC’s customers and saving up to a total across all furnaces of 170,000 tonnes of CO2 per year. The opening of this state-of-the-art reactivation plant represents a major technological breakthrough and strengthens DESOTEC’s European market-leading position, having the largest industrial reactivation facility in Europe combined with the biggest mobile filter fleet.
