Archimedean Screw Pumps
The (Archimedean) Screw Pumps are well-known for their excellent qualities such as the Simple & Rugged design, the high efficiency, the capacity to pump raw water(even when it contains an amount of solids and debris) and their lifetime reliability. Spaans Babcock has a worldwide reputation of being the oldest and the largest manufacturer of Archimedean Screw Pumps with a track-record of more than 30,000 screw pumps installed. Screw Pumps can be used for capacities from 15 litres/sec up to max 11 m3/sec and come in 3 basic forms: built in the traditional concrete trough, with steel trough liner and the prefabricated, ‘ready to install’ compact units.
High efficiency low speed surface aerators
High efficiency aerator Spaans Babcock developed the third generation aerator: After a long period of testing, the ideal design was developed. A complete new design which ensures a high efficiency, a huge mixing effect and a very smooth running with less vibration to the bridge and drive unit. The new O2Max is designed on the basis of the latest know-how (knowledge) on surface aeration and beats the old problems with this kind of aerators.
Screw Turbine
The Spaans Babcock Screw Turbine is probably the most efficient technology for low head hydropower sites. Unique is the fish friendliness, long lifetime and minimal operating costs. Spaans Babcock offers grid connected, off-grid and hybrid systems. The Screw Turbine is a further development of the Screw Pump. Whereas the Screw Pump pumps the water up, in the Screw Turbine the water flows down. The Turbine rotates due to the flow of the water and energy is transferred to the drive unit. The generated energy is transformed by a generator into electricity. A single Screw Turbine can produce up to around 500 kW and a number of Screw Turbines can be placed parallel or in series. Project sizes typically vary between 50 and 2000 kW.
Fine screen
In the year 2000 Spaans Babcock took over the assets of the German company Bormet, a manufacturer of fine screens with removable filter blocks for extremely easy maintenance and operation. This unique and patented system was brought to the market in 1990 and is still a revolutionary improvement on the conventional continuous belt screens. Spaans Babcock moved the production to its factory in the Netherlands, where the screen perfectly fits in with the range of heavy-duty equipment produced there. Worldwide more than 250 Bormet fine screens have been installed on municipal sewage treatment plants and industrial waste water plants.
