Drinking water Advisory & Engineering services
The water challenges of today and tomorrow are significant, complex, and urgent. They include ageing infrastructure, increasing demand, climate change, water scarcity, stricter laws and regulations, and growing pressure on space and resources. At the same time, drinking water utilities are increasingly organising themselves as asset management organisations, and the need for certainty in planning, costs, and performance is growing. Sweco Water Technology – Drinking Water Team stands alongside its clients to address these challenges in an integrated and achievable way. We support projects from the initiation phase through to construction supervision: from the Programme of Requirements, Concept Design, and Detailed Design to Specifications, Tendering, and Realisation. Our multidisciplinary teams combine recognised expertise in Technical Project Management, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Process Automation, Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, and Underground Infrastructure into coherent and future-proof solutions. We believe in enjoyable collaboration, long-term relationships, and genuine commitment. As a trusted partner to our clients, we understand their assets, ambitions, and organisations. This is what sets us apart: a practical focus on what truly works. The complexity of integrated drinking water challenges is increasing, while expertise is becoming scarcer. That is precisely why we bring together the right expertise within Sweco. From traditional project delivery approaches to innovative forms of collaboration, we choose what best fits the challenge and the client. With attention to sustainability, circularity, and climate adaptation, we create added value in every phase of the project. With a robust growth path, we are building strong, attractive, expert, and practical drinking water knowledge — driven by job satisfaction, humour, and craftsmanship. Sweco – engineering tomorrow’s water solutions, today.

Wastewater Advisory & Engineering Services
Sweco advises and engineers solutions for the challenges facing the wastewater sector. Our services cover the entire project lifecycle, from feasibility studies and system selection through to detailed design and tender documentation. We operate across the full spectrum of disciplines, including Process Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical & Instrumentation, Infrastructure and Civil/Structural Engineering, as well as Contract Advisory, Operations, Maintenance & Asset Management, Permitting, and current focus areas such as Sustainability. Our strength lies in our way of working: open, collaborative and closely aligned with our clients, with a clear focus on achieving shared project objectives. Representative projects include Chemours Aquarius and GOS Spijkenisse for the Water Authority Hollandse Delta. Both projects commenced with a system selection phase, during which we supported and advised the client in defining and shaping their challenge. This was followed by an engineering phase to further develop the solution, both technically and contractually, in preparation for implementation. During the execution phase, we subsequently provided support during construction and commissioning. Through this approach, we deliver independent, end‑to‑end project support, guiding our clients from business case through to realisation, both technically and organisationally.

inDENSE®
The inDENSE® technology optimizes activated sludge systems by continuously selecting heavier sludge particles using a hydrocyclone. Waste activated sludge is discharged via the cyclone, where heavier particles are separated and returned to the aeration tank, while lighter particles are removed as surplus sludge and sent to sludge treatment. This continuous selection results in a denser and more stable sludge, significantly improving settleability and consistently reducing the Sludge Volume Index (SVI) to values below 80 ml/g. Because phosphorus-accumulating organisms (PAOs) are generally heavier than other bacteria present in activated sludge, the hydrocyclone also promotes the selective retention of Bio‑P bacteria. This enhances biological phosphorus removal and allows higher phosphate removal efficiencies without the need for additional chemical dosing.

BIOCOS®
BIOCOS® (BIOlogical COmbined System) is an innovative and sustainable wastewater treatment technology that combines the robustness of activated sludge with the efficiency of granular sludge. Designed as a fully hydraulic, air‑controlled process, BIOCOS® delivers high treatment performance in a compact and cost‑effective system, making it an attractive alternative to conventional activated sludge plants. The technology uses unique sludge selection and a cyclic process entirely driven by air, eliminating the need for pumps, mixers or other submerged mechanical equipment. When combined with inDENSE® technology, BIOCOS® forms a dense, fast‑settling biomass that ensures excellent removal of carbon, nitrogen and phosphorus (Bio‑P). This results in consistently high effluent quality, low maintenance requirements and energy savings of up to 25%. With its small footprint, proven reliability and more than 150 installations worldwide, BIOCOS® is ideally suited for both new plants and upgrades where space, energy efficiency and operational simplicity are key.

Geoweb
Did you know… that there are already 10,000 professionals, from 135 organizations, using GeoWeb? GeoWeb has also become indispensable in the water sector. The work of water managers is diverse. And sometimes complex. Think of protecting our country against flooding, ensuring clean and reliable drinking water, inspection processes, water treatment, and dike and road inspections. Especially in these types of water management processes, GeoWeb can provide efficient solutions, with mobile applications becoming increasingly important. We are happy to show you what is possible. And there’s more! Discover, for example, Portal Explorer, the tool that lets you see exactly how all GeoWeb components of your ArcGIS portal are connected. Or VertiGIS Networks, software that supports you in designing, planning, and managing pipelines and networks. And we are happy to start a conversation with you: what do you need to organize your work processes in a smarter, clearer, and more efficient way with a solution that fits your practice?
