Thermowell in ScrutonWell® design
In order to avoid any damage to the thermowell during operation due to mechanical loads, a wake frequency calculation per ASME PTC 19.3 TW-2016 is recommended for critical process conditions. In case of a calculation with negative results, the only constructive solution so far was to shorten the thermowell stem or to increase the root and tip diameter, accepting a longer response time of the thermometer. The only other alternative up to now was to use a support collar to stabilise the thermowell stem inside the flange nozzle. This variant required an on-site machining of the collar to assure an interference fit in flange nozzles. The ScrutonWell® design reduces the amplitude of oscillation by more than 90 % 1) and allows an easy and fast installation of the thermowell without support collar, and thus without expensive and time-consuming rework on site. The WIKA ScrutonWell® design has been tested and approved by the independent laboratories TÜV NEL (Glasgow) and the Institute for Mechanics and Fluid Dynamics (Technical University of Freiberg). The ScrutonWell® design can be used for all kind of solid-machined thermowells with flange connection, in Vanstone design or for weld-in or threaded process connection. This helical design has been used successfully for decades in a wide variety of industrial applications to effectively suppress vortex-induced vibration excitation. Special features - The damping of vibrational excitation by helical strakes is a recognised state of the art in a wide variety of industrial applications - Easier and more cost-effective installation of the thermowell without any machining of the collar or nozzle compared to the conventional support of the thermowell with support collar - Optimised root design for improved bending strength

Diaphragm monitoring system with HART® protocol, model DSMU21SA
To ensure the production of harmless food products, the food industry is subject to strict hygiene regulations. During their processing, the products in the food industry are exposed to cleaning processes which place higher demands on the degree of hygiene. Therefore, diaphragm seal systems with easy-to-clean process connections and FDA- or USPlisted pressure transmission media are used for pressure measurement. If the wetted diaphragm is damaged, the pressure transmission medium can enter the process without being noticed. This results in a high hygienic risk, as the diaphragm damage cannot be detected immediately. A solution to this problem is the diaphragm monitoring system developed by WIKA. Compared to conventional measuring instruments with only one diaphragm, measuring instruments with two diaphragms are used here. The space between the two diaphragms is evacuated and the vacuum can be monitored with a monitoring instrument. Should there be a diaphragm rupture during the process, the vacuum breaks immediately and the monitoring instrument indicates a change in pressure. The second diaphragm continues to reliably seal off the process and the transmitter continues the pressure measurement until the damage is repaired. An error signal indicating the diaphragm rupture is sent to the control room via HART protocol. In addition, the measuring instrument can generate a residual current, which also notifies the users immediately even if they don’t have a distributed bus control system. WIKA pressure measuring instruments with integrated diaphragm monitoring are therefore particularly suitable for sanitary and aseptic production plants and help to minimise the hygienic risk. Applications - Hygienic pressure measurement for sanitary and aseptic food processing - Hygienic pressure measurement in sanitary applications for the food and beverage industry - Suitable for application in UHT lines - Sterile steam monitoring in SIP systems and aseptic plants

Diaphragm monitoring system with threaded connectionm model DMS34
The WIKA combination of diaphragm seal, pressure measuring instrument and monitoring element is ideally suited for the harshest measuring tasks. The system can withstand aggressive, contaminated or hot media and ensures a secure connection between the medium and the diaphragm monitoring system. The patented diaphragm monitoring has been designed specifically for the highest safety requirements in the chemical and petrochemical industries. On the double-diaphragm system a second, internal diaphragm in the pressure measuring instrument ensures the reliable separation of the environment and the process in the event of a diaphragm rupture. The measuring function of the overall system remains unrestricted, nevertheless it must be replaced immediately. Mounting of the diaphragm seal to the pressure measuring instrument is made as direct mounting as standard. A fluid inside the system, which is explicitly chosen to suit the particular application, hydraulically transmits the pressure to the pressure measuring instrument. Special features - Double-diaphragm system to ensure the separation of the process and the pressure measuring instrument - Process connection with thread to provide for direct threaded connection - All welded version with internal diaphragm - System from Monel

There is a choice between versions with a replaceable, spring-loaded miniature measuring insert and versions with a non-replaceable measuring resistor built directly into the thermowell tip. Insertion length, process connection and sensor can each be selected for the respective application. Special features - Sensor ranges from -196 ... +500 °C [-320 ... +932 °F] - Compact design - Universal application - Direct installation into the process - Explosion-protected versions are available for many approval types

Resistance thermometer, model TR22-A
The model TR22-A resistance thermometer is used for temperature measurement in sanitary applications. The process connections meet the stringent requirements, in terms of materials and design, of hygienic measuring locations. With increased hygienic requirements for the ambient areas around the measuring location, a stainless steel head is available in an optimised hygienic design. This enables easy cleaning of the measuring instrument, particularly for splash zones in food production. Due to the rotatable threaded connection to the connection head, it is possible to loosen the connection head and to adjust it in the desired position. The connection head can be removed together with the measuring insert. This allows the resistance thermometer to be calibrated along with the whole measuring chain, i.e. without disconnecting the electrical connections. In addition, this avoids having to open the process, and thus the risk of contamination is minimised. The spring-loaded measuring insert guarantees the contact between the sensor tip and the bottom of the protection tube and thus ensures a fast response time and high accuracy. The welded junction between the protection tube and the flange makes the use of a sealing as additional material in those areas redundant which are in contact with the product. Special features - Simplified calibration through removable measuring inserts - Materials and surface finish quality in accordance with the standards of hygienic design - Stainless steel head in optimised hygienic design, easily cleanable in all mounting positions (patent, property right: GM 000984349) - Pt100, 4 … 20 mA or HART® protocol
