ACCN Zero liquid discharge installation
Contribution to making waste processing more sustainable by recycling 'non-recyclable materials'.
The installation for cleaning the waste water that is released after washing bottom ash is capable of processing 120 m3/hour of waste water. This processing takes place using a zero liquid discharge (ZLD) process, consisting of biological pre-treatment, ceramic microfiltration, ion exchange, RO installation, evaporator and crystallizer. This converts the waste water into process water and minerals, both of which are reusable.
Through the ZLD process, ACCN ensures that no part of the waste water is lost. The process produces 107 m3/hour of process water that is reused when washing the bottom ash. In addition, 1.6 m3/hour of minerals are produced that are reused.
What have we achieved
1. Biological pre-treatment before the first softening
2. Ceramic microfiltration
3. Second softening installation consisting of ion exchangers
4. Desalination by reverse osmosis
5. Further desalting by a combination of evaporator and crystallizer with a screw press
90% of the waste water is converted into process water, the other 10% reaches the evaporator, which evaporates this stream and thus concentrates it by 60%. The crystallizer connected to this further concentrates this flow by 70%, producing crystals. The reusable minerals are formed by dewatering these crystals.
