inDENSE®

The inDENSE® technology optimizes activated sludge systems by continuously selecting heavier sludge particles using a hydrocyclone. Waste activated sludge is discharged via the cyclone, where heavier particles are separated and returned to the aeration tank, while lighter particles are removed as surplus sludge and sent to sludge treatment.
This continuous selection results in a denser and more stable sludge, significantly improving settleability and consistently reducing the Sludge Volume Index (SVI) to values below 80 ml/g.
Because phosphorus-accumulating organisms (PAOs) are generally heavier than other bacteria present in activated sludge, the hydrocyclone also promotes the selective retention of Bio‑P bacteria. This enhances biological phosphorus removal and allows higher phosphate removal efficiencies without the need for additional chemical dosing.
