Reducing Pharmaceutical Residues in Wastewater: Insights from a Healthcare Pilot

Pharmaceutical residues from healthcare facilities continue to raise questions for water quality and policy. In this session, results from a pilot demonstration on pharmaceutical removal from hospital wastewater are presented, alongside insights into how healthcare institutions are reducing emissions at the source through changes in practice and organization. The presentation reflects on what these experiences mean for water managers, policymakers, and hospitals, and where the limits and opportunities currently lie. The aim is not to present a blueprint, but to share practical lessons that may inform future decisions and collaboration.

This session is primarily relevant to professionals involved in water quality management and micropollutant control, with a focus on the healthcare sector and the water chain.
