At the Green Village, a rainwater harvesting system will be realised by RMA Hydromet together with a number of partners. The rainwater falling on the roof of one of the buildings with an area of 120 m2 will be drained into an above ground collection tank. The water collected in this tank will be used for flushing toilets in the building and irrigating the “Green Wall”, which will be installed on one side of the building. This picture shows an artist impression, of how the building as a whole could be fitted with a “Green Wall”. The site also measures meteorological data such as;

• Precipitation
• Wind
• Humidity
• Air pressure
• Temperature
• Solar radiation

A secondary goal (but equally important) is, by collecting precipitation, to relieve the, sewerage
system. To achieve this goal, the precipitation forecast is read into the control unit every hour. Based on this forecast, a check is made as to whether the next downpour can be stored in the collection tank. If not, additional storage will be created by draining water from the tank.
