A butterfly valve is an open / closed valve with a relatively simple construction. In one quarter turn it goes from a fully open position to a fully closed position, or vice versa; a butterfly valve offers the possibility to open or close a pipe very quickly.
A butterfly valve can be used in many applications: water supply, waste water treatment, fire fighting, gas production, distribution and industrial applications such as chemical industry, HVAC, energy supplies. The low cost price, the low weight and the short installation length are some advantages of this type of valve.
The valves have various operating options such as hand stems, electric or pneumatic drives or a reduction gear depending on the requirements.
In general there are two types of butterfly valves, namely the centric and eccentric butterfly valves. With a centric butterfly valve, the spindle is centered in the center of the valve and the disc is centered in the bore. With the eccentric butterfly valve there are one or more axes from the center; depending on type single, double or triple eccentric.
