Significantly lower CO2 emissions than IE3

This means that the IE5+ motor not only saves energy, but also emissions. Compared to a conventional IE3 asynchronous motor, an IE5+ synchronous motor reduces emissions by approximately 0.15 tons of CO2 per year. This applies to a single engine. In large systems with hundreds or thousands of engines, such as in intralogistics, impressive savings can be achieved. This example calculation is based on the following assumptions:

An IE3 asynchronous motor with 0.75 kW, an efficiency of 83% and a bevel gear reducer.
An IE5+ synchronous motor with 0.75 kW, an efficiency of 93% and a bevel gear reducer.
Usage time: 16 hours per day, or 4,000 hours per year.
Energy savings with the IE5+: approximately 400 kWh per year.
Emission reduction: 0.15 tons of CO2 per year (with a CO2 emission factor of 366 g/kWh).

NORD’s IE5+ motor also stands out for another sustainability factor: efficient use of materials. Due to various innovations in the design of the motor, significant savings have been achieved in material use in the IE5 series. NORD DRIVESYSTEMS has developed the IE5+ as an eight-pole synchronous motor with an internal permanent magnet. This reduces the dimensions of the motor components, not only for the housing, but also for the magnet material.

When reducing the material, it was also possible to reduce the share of rare metals in the magnet material. These raw materials are mainly found in Russia, China and Brazil. Mining has major consequences for the environment.

In eight-pole synchronous motors, the stator can also be made with so-called single-tooth windings. This means that a precious metal like copper is only used where it is productive and inefficient use can be avoided.
This means that the IE5+ motor scores in terms of sustainability, both in terms of energy efficiency and economical use of materials.
