What is the rinse water treatment?
Rinsing water treatment is not part of the main process of drinking water preparation; it is a secondary process. Rinsing water is released when the quick filters are rinsed clean with air and water. The rinse water processing ensures that rinse water is made suitable for reuse in the purification process.

The new rinse water processing
In the past, the flushing water was drained directly into the flushing ponds. Because this area is now part of Natura 2000, this process had to change. That is why Van der Ven has improved the rinse water treatment process together with Dunea. The rinse water is no longer discharged directly into the rinse ponds but undergoes the first settling process in the new buffer. The rinse water is then pumped to the flake former for final settling. We can proudly say that the system works excellently. The rinse water that ultimately leaves the flake former is already very clean and clear and can then be drained into the new rinse ponds.

Back to nature
We have cleaned up the former flushing water ponds and the surrounding dune area and removed unnecessary infrastructure. With this, we have created a new robust nature, new dune grassland is created and there is room for even more biodiversity. We have returned the area to nature.
