Other CMDs that use active fluorescence estimate living cell concentration by assuming a fixed value for the variable fluorescence per cell (Fv/cell) — but this can vary by over 2 orders of magnitude depending on cell size across the 10–50 µm D2 range, leading to large errors. FastBallast solves this with a patented multi-step process: Level 1 – Rapid Screening (3 minutes): Uses an estimated Fv/cell to identify samples that have clearly passed. If this is the case, testing ends here. Level 2 – Accurate Cell Count (less than 10 minutes): If the Level 1 test is ambiguous, a Level 2 test is automatically conducted. This calculates actual cell concentration based on the distribution of Fv and then infers average cell size from Fv magnitude. This improves accuracy where borderline results occur. Level 3 – Size Check: Ensures a few large cells aren’t hiding many smaller ones. This avoids the need for filters or retesting — saving time and hassle. The FBS rotary screw blower from Kaeser represents the next milestone in the development of oil-free compression blower technology. With a flow rate of 18 to 72 m³/min and pressure differentials from 0.3 to 1.1 bar, as well as a selection of motors ranging from 45 to 110 kW, the innovative FBS continues the success story of its smaller sibling, the EBS, whilst setting new standards in terms of energy efficiency, space-saving design and automation. The SFC version is equipped with a frequency converter and a synchronous reluctance motor – a slip-free design that combines all the advantages of high-efficiency permanent-magnet motors with those of robust, service-friendly asynchronous motors. Thanks to variable speed control, the flow rate can be adjusted as required and a control range of 1:4 is achieved, allowing exceptionally dynamic operation. The fixed speed STC version is equipped with an energy-saving IE4 Super Premium Efficiency motor, which reduces energy consumption and therefore costs, making the STC version more efficient than ever before. On both versions, power transmission from the motor to the airend takes place via loss-free and maintenance-free gearing, which results in an improvement of up to 7% in specific package input power as compared to the previous model. The complete machine achieves an efficiency range that represents the pinnacle of performance for this particular segment. A number of years ago, we launched our own showpiece of single-phase and three-phase motors under the brand name FCM Motors Europe.
