Innovation in technical coatings: Rilsan in the spotlight

Inspection of the Putten pumping station
EMHA received a commission from Xylem to conduct a seven-yearly inspection of the Putten pumping station for WS Hollandse Delta. The pumping station is equipped with three fish-friendly pumps, which together can pump 450,000 liters per minute. This is more than enough to drain the entire island of Putten. The purpose of this inspection is to ensure the long-term, efficient, and reliable operation of the pumping station. Visual inspections were performed on the pumps, drives, inlet and outlet points, and emergency gates, among other things. Measurements were also taken, such as wall thickness determination, multi-channel vibration measurements, and impeller clearance checks. In addition to conducting the inspection, EMHA adds value by making recommendations regarding the most suitable research methods and preparing clear, concise, and as standardized as possible reports. This enables the Water Board to more quickly fine-tune maintenance programs and make well-considered decisions regarding the maintenance plan and strategy. Following this, we are working hard on developing a standardized methodology with associated inspection tools.

Introduction Caprari Pumps
Caprari is an Italian industrial pump manufacturer, specialized in solutions and applications for efficient and sustainable integrated management of the water cycle. Part of the extensive Caprari program are the wastewater pumps of the K+ series. Pumps specifically designed for sewage and wastewater applications. Caprari wastewater pumps can be used where many other pump brands stop and have a range up to more than 4000 m3/h or go up to pressures of around 7 bar. These submersible pumps are designed for pumping wastewater containing solids and gases.
INVENT technology is powering Schwalbachtal
The municipal wastewater treatment plant in Schwalbachtal, Bavaria, was upgraded in the mid-1990s to improve the efficiency and reliability of the biological treatment stage. As part of this modernization, the Utility selected INVENT technologies in 1997: a first-generation HYPERCLASSIC®-Mixer for continuous, homogeneous basin mixing and an E-FLEX®-Aeration System for fine-bubble oxygen transfer. The treatment facility consists two aeration basins, each 14.5 m in diameter with a total volume of approximately 1,350 m³. Both tanks operate as Sequencing Batch Reactors (SBR) and treat roughly 2,000 m³ of wastewater per day across three shifts. The original FRP components of the mixers installed in 1997 remain in service today. Only the gear motors have been replaced during normal lifecycle maintenance. The shaft and mixer body made of fiber-reinforced high-performance polymer (FRP) provide long-term corrosion resistance and eliminates material fatigue even under continues intermittent SBR operation. Each basin is equipped with five E-FLEX®-aeration modules for efficient fine-bubble oxygenation. Their stainless steel frames have operated unchanged since commissioning. The flexible membrane hoses move during aeration, preventing fouling and deposit formation. This maintains low headloss, stable oxygen transfer and reduced blower energy demand over time. Since start-up in 1997, only two membrane replacements (2008 and 2024) and two motor replacements were required. The original FRP mixer shaft and hyperboloid mixer body remain fully intact and in service, without any signs of corrosion or material fatigue. Because the plant operates two biological tanks, all maintenance work could be carried out on one basin while the other remained fully operational, so overall plant operation was never interrupted. The combination of hyperboloid mixing and fine-bubble aeration ensures rapid and uniform oxygen distribution.

Leading the way in filtration with Lubrafil Filtration:
For decades, Lubrafil has been supplying manual and automatic Boll & Kirch filters to the Dutch water sector. At Aqua Nederland, we are presenting our next step: the Boll4thStage Lab Container. This container will become a fully modular test facility for the fourth purification stage. In a single compact setup, we combine GAC, PAC, ozone, and SiC-ceramic UF membranes—technologies that have proven themselves in removing pharmaceutical residues and other micropollutants. What makes it unique is that all technologies can be tested independently and in any desired combination. This allows us to determine, under realistic conditions, which configurations work best for different WWTPs, discharge profiles, and future requirements. The Boll4thStage Lab Container will become a sector-wide innovation platform—a place where water authorities, engineering firms, builders, and suppliers can collect practical data, validate designs, and develop solutions ready for the 2027 Water Act requirements and for the challenges thereafter, from PFAS to microplastics. At Aqua Nederland, we are sharing the concept (we have already started construction). We invite everyone to contribute ideas, participate in testing, and take the next step together in improving water quality in the Netherlands.

Low-pressure applications
A variety of machines are available for generating compressed air: rotary lobe blowers, rotary screw blowers and turbo blowers, to name but a few. With a wealth of options on offer, operators looking to purchase reliable and long-lasting equipment will find it pays dividends to conduct an extensive demand analysis before making any investment, so as to ensure that they are selecting the machine best suited to their requirements. Operating companies have a broad spectrum of blowers from which to choose. The most common types of machine are rotary lobe blowers, rotary screw blowers and turbo blowers, which tend to generate differential pressures between 0.4 and 1.0 bar at flow rates up to 250 m³/min. Lubrafil Smart SCADA Filtration System
An innovative self-regulating system that keeps the filter (element) optimally clean. A predictive system; Never too early again, but certainly never again too late maintenance. The collected filter data can easily be consulted locally. This information can also be accessed via the Ewon Flexy data gateway for remote monitoring, predictive maintenance and to enable other value-added services. Find out more about this version 2.0 at our stand and how we have further developed this system to an even higher level.

Lubrafil, member of Bollgroup
Lubrafil Filtration B.V. has become a 100% subsidiary of Boll & Kirch Filterbau GmbH. This change comes after 24 years of close cooperation between the two companies. For BOLL & KIRCH this move further enhances their ability to provide high quality filtration products and services to its customers by thinking globally and acting locally. This acquisition enables Lubrafil Filtration to further benefit from BOLL GROUP's extensive knowledge and resources, and allow us to further strengthen our market position and to offer our customers an even broader package. The recent membership in the BOLL GROUP is reflected in Lubrafil´s new logo. The new logo features the BOLL GROUP name and highlights Lubrafil's role as a member of the BOLL family of companies.
