      Biological Water Treatment Solutions

Water, wastewater, and sludge treatment solutions for virtually any influent condition We provide high-performance water, wastewater, and sludge treatment solutions for any size population and virtually any influent condition. We are involved in every stage of a project, from process design to equipment supply to operations training. Our design engineers look at the entire treatment process to find ways to improve water supply and control pollution economically. We handle drinking water treatment and wastewater applications like primary, secondary, wastewater reuse, and stormwater management for municipalities around the country. Industries, too, benefit from our diverse solutions, including physical-chemical treatment, packed bed demineralization, ion exchange, reverse osmosis, and aerobic/ anaerobic biological systems. - ZeeWeed Membrane Bioreactor for Wastewater - DENIFOR Downflow Dentrification - METEOR IFAS/MBBR - ZeeLung - BioFOR Filters - zeeDENSE is a state-of-the-art application coupling ZeeLung MABR & inDENSE continuous flow densification technology for super-intensification of activated sludge plants.

    2. Bioprotect - Screening, fish and jellyfish

Bioprotect - Screening, fish and jellyfish

A continuous supply of seawater to an industrial facility (e.g. power and/or water producer, refinery, petrochemical plant, etc.) is critical to guarantee its full production potential. An unexpectedly high volume of biological material (e,g, jellyfish, fish, seaweed) can put production at risk by overwhelming the seawater intake screening system, resulting in a complete blockage and a trip of the plant. To prevent this risk, H2O BFS has developed a specialist service called Bioprotect, in which we combine early warning and deterrent systems with optimisation of screening design/operation to reduce the risk of an unscheduled stoppage. Working with a unique team of experts in the field of screening, marine ecology, and seawater intake systems, we provide dedicated solutions to prevent the risk of an unplanned shutdown due to the ingress of high volumes of biological material. The Bioprotect service is effective to guard against risks arising from: - Schooling fish - Jellyfish blooms - Marine mammals - Marine turtles - Seaweed and Seagrass

    3. Biosafe - Biofilm Monitoring System

      Biosafe - Biofilm Monitoring System

Monitoring of biofilms is particularly important when water treatment is the primary approach to prevention of micro-organism settlement, biological scale accumulation and MIC. To monitor the activity of these sessile organisms an electrochemical biofilm activity monitoring system has been developed to monitor biofilm activity on-line and in real time. It has been shown to be effective for predicting biofilm activity on-line and as a continuous measure of biocide effectiveness. Because of the fact that the growth of micro-organisms is stimulated on this probe, the system provides an ‘early warning’ so that immediate action for preventing biofilm formation in the seawater system can be made when treatment proves not efficient. It provides the system engineer, water chemist, or maintenance specialist with a powerful tool for planning inspections, for scheduling on-line or off-line cleaning, or for adjusting the timing and dosage of water treatment, and most importantly avoiding biological scale accumulation.

    4. Biotricklingfilter

      Biotricklingfilter

Discover the symbiosis of biofilter and counter-current scrubber in a state-of-the-art system! With a compact design and high specific surface area of the packing, we offer a solution that efficiently treats even high concentrations of pollutants such as H2S. Our technology is based on proven biological exhaust air purification, but with a decisive advantage: the sorption of pollutants takes place in a trickle bed instead of a conventional filter bed. This innovative design is similar to a packed-bed scrubber, but works with a significantly lower sprinkling density, which considerably increases efficiency and cost-effectiveness. Decide for quality and innovation – choose our system!

    5. Biovision - Biofouling Monitoring Service.

      Biovision - Biofouling Monitoring Service.

When water (sea, brackish, fresh) comes in contact with man-made solid surfaces, such as conduits and pipework of an intake water system, surfaces are colonized by living organisms in standard patterns. Generally two types of biofouling can be distinguished: Micro fouling, a slime layer consisting of different types of bacteria (biofilm). Macro fouling, shell type organisms like oysters, mussels and barnacles. To provide operators real time insight insight in the risk of biofouling settlement within the water system, H2O BFS developed Biovision service. This provides real time biofouling monitor system to achieve an early warning for biofouling build up in the system.

    6. BODAC

      BODAC

BODAC filters, also known as Biological Oxygen-Dosed Active Carbon filters, are biologically activated carbon filters where adsorption, desorption and biodegradation take place simultaneously. This technology is used on an industrial scale as a pretreatment to stop bacterial growth on RO membranes, which reduces chemical cleaning and extends the life of membranes. At the BODAC filters in the ultrapure water plant in Nieuw-Amsterdam, where 8200 m3/h of ultrapure water is produced, it has been discovered that the biology on the filter bed removes micropollutants. Recent studies show that more than 80% of the selected guide substances for pharmaceutical residues are removed, with an overall removal efficiency of 74-82%. BODAC is a robust system, easy to apply in current purification practices, with effective DOC removal and a competitive CO2 footprint. The technology uses relatively little energy compared to competing technologies. The long service life of the activated carbon (more than 12 years) and the extended life of RO membranes make BODAC and RO low-maintenance and low-chemical, with only oxygen dosing. In new pilot projects, BODAC is being further developed for municipal scale, with testing of add-ons for processes such as nitrification, dephosphating and manganese removal. The synergy between active processes in the BODAC filter and the broad applicability makes the technology promising for further development and implementation in existing purifications.
